Pause for a minte and think about a "sweet sound"... Listen to that sound for just a moment.
What thoughts run through your head? What feelings swell up inside you? For me the Hymn "Amazing Grace" has always conjured up those peaceful and yet powerful thoughts and feelings. Recently as I heard this song I began to meditate on each line. So I thought I'd share some of those thoughts and feelings here. Typically, I have thought of God's amazing grace as an action on his part and not, as the songwriter suggests, a sound. What does amazing grace sound like? I'm still not sure that I know the answer but I can imagine God's voice calling me back toward Him and that voice sounds sweet as can be! Especially after a time of bitterness - toward Him, toward life, toward others, toward myself. Sweetness kills the bitterness. I image the Shepard quietly talking as he guides me through the pastures, up the mountainside, and even through the valley. His sheep know his quiet, sweet voice. Amazing grace how sweet the sound.
